The hashtag ‘#LoveBercow’ was trending on Twitter last night after Tim Walker’s viral tweets praising the former Speaker of the House of Commons, Mr John Bercow.

Tim Walker, a prominent journalist for The New European newspaper and the author of an upcoming book, showered John Bercow with praise after the former Speaker’s defection to Labour and his blistering attack on Boris Johnson’s government.

In a sign of approval of Mr John Bercow’s defection to the Labour party and his verbal attack on Johnson, Tim Walker urged his gigantic social media following to “get #LoveBercow trending. All in all, I reckon he kind of deserves it.”

In response, a lot of people have been using the aforementioned hashtag to list just some of the reasons why they love the former Speaker of the House of Commons.

Many of the reasons for loving John Bercow were based on his successful ability to hold the executive repeatedly accountable over his ten year period as a Speaker.

In various social media posts, Mr John Bercow was also applauded for standing on the right side of history when he stated in 2017 that “Trump should not speak in Parliament”.

Mr Bercow was also commended for championing “inclusivity” by the media spokesperson of the Muslim Council of Britain. In a social media post, the Muslims Council of Britain’s Miqdaad Versi recalled the time when Mr Bercow “made Speaker’s House the venue for the prize giving for @MuslimCouncil’s #VisitMyMosque day”.
