Pakistan’s Prime Minister, Imran Khan has called on people to express their solidarity with Kashmir on Friday. In a tweet, the prime minister stated that he wants “all Pakistanis to come out tomorrow 12 noon -12.30 pm to show solidarity with the Kashmiri people”.

Imran Khan said that the purpose of this half-an-hour slot will be to illustrate that Pakistanis stand firmly with Kashmir in the face of “India fascist oppression”.

The government’s official social media account has also tweeted a reminder to its citizens to observe solidarity with the people of Kashmir today between 12PM to 12:30PM local time.

The country’s federal government and its armed forces have chosen to observe “Kashmir Hour” because of the continued and ongoing curfew in Indian administered Kashmir. It has been 25 days since New Delhi revoked Article 370 and imposed an indefinite curfew, which has made everyday life impossible for the locals.

Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Firdous Ashiq Awan released a five point plan of what the solidarity hour entails. The main points include: suspension of traffic, protests at key locations and adjournment of parliamentary business.

Actors and actresses have also urged their fellow citizens to participate in the solidarity march. Hamza Ali Abbasi, an actor and broadcaster, urged people to “UNITE for Kashmir”.
